Psychology for Every Stage of Life

Our psychologists have experience working across all life stages. Here is how we tailor our approach to different age groups.

🧒

Children

Under 12

Psychology for children uses age-appropriate, play-informed approaches to help young people manage anxiety, big emotions, social difficulties, and behavioural challenges. We work closely with parents and caregivers throughout the process.

🧑

Adolescents

12 to 17

The teenage years bring unique pressures. Our psychologists support adolescents navigating identity, peer relationships, academic stress, anxiety, depression, and the challenges of growing up.

👩

Adults

18 and over

From managing work stress and relationship challenges to processing trauma and building resilience, our psychologists support adults at all stages of adult life with evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs.

👴

Older Adults

65 and over

Older Australians face distinct challenges including grief and loss, adjustment to retirement, chronic illness, cognitive changes, and social isolation. Our psychologists approach these with particular sensitivity and respect.

Your First Psychology Appointment

If you have never seen a psychologist before, it is completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. Here is what your first session at Therapy Hub will typically look like.

1
A conversation, not an interrogation

Your first session is about getting to know you. Your psychologist will ask about what has brought you in, your current situation, and what you are hoping to get out of the process. You do not need to have everything figured out before you come — you just need to show up.

2
No pressure to share everything at once

You are in control of what you share and when. Your psychologist will follow your lead and will never push you to talk about things you are not ready to discuss. Building trust takes time and that is completely okay.

3
A plan that fits your life

Together, you and your psychologist will identify what you want to work toward and begin to develop a plan. This might involve specific therapeutic strategies, between-session activities, or simply having a regular space to process and reflect.

4
Confidentiality

What you share with your psychologist is confidential. There are some specific exceptions to this — for example, if there is a serious risk of harm — but your psychologist will explain these clearly at your first session. You can also ask any questions you have about privacy before you start.
